New housing options for Nuremberg

How will we live in the future? How can we promote social community in the city? These are all questions that we face every day and address with innovative projects and housing options.

Our housing projects – Solutions for the future

Assisted Living at Langwassersee

The “Assisted Living at Langwassersee” project offers senior citizens a barrier-free flat and social assistance from the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) of Nuremberg. A total of 150 publicly subsidised flats for senior citizens are available, which are rented out by wbg at the suggestion of the Nuremberg Social Welfare Office. In addition to the rental flats, 86 condominiums suitable for senior citizens were also built (and already sold), which are also attached to the “Assisted Living” complex. The housing complex is located in a quiet, almost traffic-free environment directly at the Langwassersee lake, surrounded by an abundance of green. If you’re interested in assisted living in Langwasser, call the ImmoCenter at 0911/80 04-18 00 or send an e-mail to vermieterteam@wbg.nuernberg.de.

Olga – Oldies living together actively

This special housing project has attracted nationwide attention. Behind the Olga project are 11 ladies who had intentionally made the choice to live together in their old age. Their goal is to live independently and self-reliantly for as long as possible. Each in her own barrier-free flat, but still with mutual support and assistance. The ladies approached wbg with this idea and found a receptive ear. After the building in Chemnitzer Straße was included in wbg’s modernisation plan, a suitable property was found for the project. It’s located on the edge of the Nordostbahnhof housing complex in a quiet cul-de-sac lined with trees.

WIPS - Plauener Straße Housing Initiative

As a further development of the housing project "OLGA" ("Oldies live actively together"), the Plauener Straße housing initiative (WIPS) promotes intergenerational living and brings together single people, married couples and families of different ages. The housing project is located in the residential area near Nuremberg's Nordostbahnhof. The WIPS have about 20 rented flats of approx. 50-110 sqm at their disposal, as well as places for joint activities. The flats are partly financed according to EOF guidelines and partly freely financed.

WAL – Housing for all phases of life

The model project of the Supreme Building Authority in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior aimed to provide living space for all generations and for all life circumstances. The ambitious goal of wbg was not only to equip the project to be barrier-free, but also to bring WAL to life. The aim was to create a spirit of cooperation and togetherness in the 41 flats at Dresdner Strasse 7-11. Young and old alike should feel at home there. wbg laid the foundations for social interaction in the design of the outdoor facilities as well as in the community room and the information boards. And with success: Joint music and games evenings, collective excursions, Sunday brunch or yoga classes are on the WAL residents’ agenda.

Housing projects for women

As the largest municipal real estate company in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, wbg realises innovative housing concepts. The following two projects are specially adapted to the needs of women with children.

FRIDA – Free Initiative of Single Parents (Mothers)

FRIDA is a special kind of housing community. Seven mothers with a total of 18 children each live in their own flat at the Nordostbahnhof, but all under the same roof. So although each family has its own private rooms, they still cook together and share childcare duties. wbg supports this community by renting affordable flats to the women in a renovated housing complex at Nordostbahnhof. The garden of the apartment building is now adorned with a garden house donated by wbg, which provides additional space for tenants to spend time together in the summer.

MARIA

In the "MARIA" housing project, the house community also consists of single mothers who support each other. It is a successor project of the "FRIDA "s ("Free Initiative of Single Parents") and is also located in Plauener Straße. The flats there are financed according to EOF guidelines.

Women-friendly housing in Langwasser

Striegauer Straße in Langwasser, once a hardly inviting street formerly occupied by a desolate car park, is now home to a modern and functional housing complex covering an area of 4,000 m² and geared primarily to the different housing and living needs of women. At its heart is the inner courtyard with its play facilities for children. The great advantage of this design is that the square is easily visible from all the kitchen windows. And what about slightly older children? They need only go behind the housing complex to find a green space that’s perfect for playing ball.
