Here live European goldfinches

Many of wbg's target species have very specific requirements for their habitat. The goldfinch, also known as the goldfinch, already reveals its preferred food with its name: thistles, thistles and teasels. It is also very choosy when it comes to nesting sites, using sycamore, lime and horse chestnut trees. Pines and birches provide important seeds for its winter supplies.

This is why wbg Nürnberg places particular emphasis on the needs of our target species when selecting tree and shrub species. This has resulted in a comprehensive plant catalog for the Langwasser-Süd district.

Areas of perennials rich in flowers, seeds and fruit also help the goldfinch to forage in winter. These areas are left uncut over the winter so that the plants provide seeds for birds and shelter for insects. The inflorescences are only cut back in late spring, just before the new shoots appear. Some of wbg's meadows are also not mowed before winter so that they can provide valuable protection for overwintering insects.
