We design living spaces – including for kestrels, bees, and many other animal and insect species. In our residential complexes, we place great importance on green spaces with meadows, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
In December 2023, we began creating habitats for eleven native animal species, including lizards, various bird species, and many more. With the help of an Animal-Aided-Design approach, we are implementing various measures to protect and preserve biodiversity.
We started in Langwasser South, where we created habitats for lizards, hedges, and tree trunks made of dead wood, as well as small watering holes.
In coordination with the Nuremberg Environmental Agency, we have set up a nesting site for kestrels in the attic of one of our residential buildings. Every spring, the breeding process can be followed live via a webcam.
In addition to buildings and paths, our residential complexes also include park-like areas with trees, shrubs, and flowers. The green spaces cover an area of around 700,000 square meters. They provide diverse habitats for flora and fauna.
Many meadows are only mowed twice a year, serving as “nectar stations” for a variety of insect species.
Since 2020, we have been adopting bees from an organic beekeeper. Another colony of bees moved in with us in 2023. Now we are giving a home to around 20,000 bees in the garden of our head office.
This way, we’re not only protecting the environment and the bees, we’re also harvesting our own honey. This is sold to our employees. The proceeds are donated to a good cause.
New trees are planted in our housing complexes all the time. We welcome committed tenants who would like to take care of the trees. Interested? Then please send us an e-mail:
As part of our competition “Our housing complex should become more beautiful”, we look for and select the most beautiful tenant gardens every year. A total of €1000 in prize money is distributed among the winners. Would you like to apply? Please contact your Customer Centre.
