The wbg 2000 Foundation was established in 2000 to mark the 950th anniversary of the first documented mention of the city of Nuremberg in 1050. A conscious decision was made not to make a one-off donation, but to create a long-term impact through a foundation that would benefit the city's society in the long term.

The wbg 2000 Foundation was established on July 10, 2000 and approved by the government of Middle Franconia on July 14, 2000. The foundation capital at that time amounted to DM 500,000, today 260,000 euros. To strengthen the foundation right from the start, wbg Nürnberg also supported the project with a donation of DM 250,000 after the foundation's charitable status had been recognized. The foundation receives annual donations from wbg's income, which ensures long-term stability.

Today, after 25 years, the foundation can draw a gratifying balance: Around 400 projects have been supported with more than 2.4 million euros. “Thanks to the broad-based purpose of the foundation, more than EUR 771,000 has been invested in projects for children and young people over the years and over EUR 500,000 in the creative redesign of school playgrounds,” sums up Elisabeth Ries, professional city councillor for youth, family and social affairs, who chairs the foundation's advisory board.

"25 years is an important milestone in a constantly changing society. I am very pleased that our foundation has always helped when new social challenges have arisen. For example, we have given almost 85,000 euros for the social integration of refugees or approved almost 260,000 euros for educational measures," says wbg Managing Director Ralf Schekira, who is also Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors.
