First construction phase of Ludwig-Uhland-Schule completed

On behalf of the City of Nuremberg, WBG Kommunal GmbH has carried out the renovation of the “small halls” at Ludwig-Uhland-Schule in the north of Nuremberg. The work was recently completed, after which the building section was handed over to the City of Nuremberg and thus to the school family as the user.

The former gymnasiums of the listed building built in the turn of the century as well as the connected changing facilities wing were extensively renovated and converted into a modern cafeteria. In the process, a number of rooms were also created that are used for all-day care in the primary and secondary school area. Due to the child-friendly furnishings with both quiet and active zones, these new rooms are a true enrichment for the north of Nuremberg. The City of Nuremberg invested around €5.8 million in the completed project.

“With this, the development of the Uhland-Schule site can be continued. Planning is underway for the construction of a new primary school, for which initial work will commence before the end of the year. New facilities are essential as a response to the increasing number of children in the district and in order to expand all-day schooling services. Both in terms of urban development and design, the building will blend in well with the existing building”, says a confident Cornelia Trinkl, City Councillor for School and Sport for the City of Nuremberg.

“Once the primary school has moved into the new building and the secondary school has been temporarily relocated, we will renovate the main building. The building, which dates back to 1908, will once again become the jewel inside and out that it had been for decades after its construction near the former Nordbahnhof rail station”, Nuremberg City Councillor for Planning and Building Daniel F. Ulrich is convinced.

“With the development of this school site, we are significantly improving the situation for the pupils, who mainly come from our wbg core housing complex, the Nordbahnhof. In view of this, we were happy to take on the contract”, explains wbg Managing Director Ralf Schekira.
