Frank Thyroff, born in Marktredwitz, studied business administration at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and graduated with a degree in business administration. He began his professional career at Diehl in 1982.
In 1991, he joined the City of Nuremberg and initially became Deputy Head of the Economic Department, before becoming Head of this department in July 1993.
On October 1, 2009, he was appointed Managing Director of wbg Nürnberg GmbH Immobilienunternehmen and WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH.
Ten years ago, he was elected to the board of VdW Bayern. He represented the interests of municipal housing companies in the Federal Working Group of Municipal Housing Companies at the GdW and was involved in the Working Group of Large Housing Companies (AGW) from the outset, where he has been Deputy Head of the Business Administration Working Group since 2022.
He was the founder and, until two years ago, a board member of the “Zeit für Ethik” association and, as a board member of ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e. V. until the end of 2023, supported the metropolitan region's cluster policy, which he initiated as a business promoter.
Key highlights at wbg included leading the municipal consortium to submit a takeover bid for the GBW apartments, the strategic realignment of wbg with the implementation of modern management methods and a digitalization strategy, as well as socially oriented neighbourhood development, e.g. with SIGENA bases.
During Frank Thyroff's term of office - from 2012 with his managing director colleague Ralf Schekira - around 3260 residential units were modernized and converted, around 1150 apartments were newly built for the portfolio and around 660 units were built and sold by the property developer. The balance sheet total rose from around 500 million euros to around one billion euros.
This period was also characterized by the development of WBG KOMMUNAL into a company with an order volume of 1.5 billion euros, the establishment of an in-house construction planning department with over 40 employees and the expansion of the property development business.
He initiated the financial safeguarding of the growth course through a major loan from the European development bank CEB as well as the certification of sustainability.
He was also a regular guest at the planning and construction working group of the Bayer. Bavarian Association of Cities and Towns and a member of the IHK committee for securing skilled workers.
The exchange and cooperation with other housing companies and cooperatives has always been a matter close to his heart, especially of course with the partners in the Central Franconian association.
Ralf Schekira, born in Döbeln, studied civil engineering at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. This was followed by a degree in civil engineering/building construction at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, which he also completed as a graduate engineer (FH). This was followed by a management certification as part of the St. Gallen management program “Strategy/Marketing/Financial Management”.
From 1992 to 2004, Ralf Schekira worked as an independent engineer in the fields of urban land-use planning, construction planning and project management for commercial and residential construction. From 2004 to 2012, he was the sole managing director of GWB “Elstertal” Geraer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH and “Elstertal” Infraprojekt GmbH, focusing on the housing industry and municipal real estate management.
On August 1, 2012, he came to Nuremberg as Technical Managing Director of wbg Nürnberg GmbH Immobilienunternehmen and WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH. In addition to focusing on the housing industry, property development and municipal construction services, it was always important to him to successfully position the wbg Group for the future together with his managing director colleague Frank Thyroff.
He is Chairman of the Planning/Technology/Energy Committee of the GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungs- und Immobilienunternehmen e.V., a member of the VdW Bayern's Expert Committee for Municipal Housing Companies, a member of the Board of the Association of Housing Companies in Middle Franconia and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BZG Baustoffzentralgesellschaft mbH as well as a member of the Climate Advisory Board of the City of Nuremberg.
“With Frank Thyroff, we are bidding farewell to a deserving managing director who has implemented clear ideas for a socially oriented municipal real estate company. He has shaped the development of the wbg group of companies positively and always in the interests of the shareholders,” said the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the wbg group of companies, Lord Mayor Marcus König, at the farewell ceremony.
He continued: “I have come to know Ralf Schekira as a proven expert both for the entire construction process and for the management of our wbg. His authoritative and highly reliable way of working has recommended him for the sole management of the wbg Group. I will continue to count on him and his team in the future and look forward to working with him in the future.”
