Since this autumn, there has been a new primary school after-school club in the Nordbahnhof core residential complex of wbg Nürnberg GmbH Immobilienunternehmen. The previous youth centre at the Burgkmairstraße 10 playground was converted and extended for this purpose. It now offers space for 25 children aged 6 to 10.

The new facility was created because parents took the initiative on a voluntary basis to create more childcare places in Nordstadt. They found space for this in the former youth centre with homework supervision "Orte für Kinder", which was closed in 2019. wbg Nürnberg carried out a core refurbishment and energy efficiency upgrade on the building, which dates back to 1928, and added an extension. The architectural firm Aicher + Hautmann was responsible for the project planning and was in charge of construction management.

Around EUR 1.9 million was invested by wbg Nürnberg. The city of Nuremberg subsidised the project with around 830,000 euros.
Glitzerdrachen e. V. now runs the day nursery next to the new children's shop at Harrichstrasse 30, the former wbg CustomerCentre NorthWest. The non-profit organisation, founded as a parents' initiative, is thus expanding Nuremberg's daycare facilities by a total of 52 places. Registration takes place via the city's daycare centre portal.

"We are delighted that we have also been able to rent the former youth centre in Burgkmairstraße from wbg Nürnberg. As a parent community, we are implementing educational equality and inclusion for all in the midst of the diversity of the neighbourhood. We focus on the needs of the children. At the same time, they learn to actively shape the community through our educational specialists," explains Nico Ach, CFO of the Glitzerdrachen e.V. association, at the opening ceremony. "The conversion of the existing building is a stroke of luck for Nordstadt. The urgently needed after-school care places enable all-day education and contribute to the provision of services in a neighbourhood with unmet needs. We are delighted to be working with the dedicated parents' initiative Glitzerdrachen e.V.," says Elisabeth Ries, Head of Youth, Family and Social Affairs.

"By preserving this existing building, we have made a contribution to the environment and significantly reduced CO2 emissions in addition to the social aspect. The new facility has created an offer for families in our core residential complex. Thanks to the long-term rental agreement, this will also be of benefit to the next generation," said wbg Managing Director Frank Thyroff at the handover of the keys.
