The next fire department equipment building (FWGH) can be handed over to the volunteer fire department (FFW) On Saturday, 20.04.2024, the equipment building in Buch became the sixth construction project to be handed over to the FFW.

Now the FFW Buch can also move into a newly built equipment building. The location is at Georg-Ziegler-Weg 33, on the corner of Hofwiesenweg. The old fire station was demolished, as was a milk house on the old site. After four years of construction, which was also marked by the effects of the Covid pandemic and the material and supply bottlenecks caused by the war in Ukraine, the Buch fire brigade moves into a building with a parking space for an emergency vehicle, separate changing areas for personal protective equipment and private clothing, its own first-aid room, a training room, a commander's office, a youth room, a training equipment room and a barrier-free toilet,
technical rooms and a kitchenette. The flat roof has a roof terrace and is covered with greenery. The city of Nuremberg spent 5,320,000 euros on the new building and received 55,000 euros in funding.
Mayor Marcus König says: "The volunteer fire departments are a strong part of Nuremberg: they ensure safety, help in the event of a disaster and are an important part of the social community. I would like to thank all firefighters for their service! With the new fire station, we are keeping our promise to renovate or build new fire stations step by step - even in times of tight budgets."

Mayor Christian Vogel adds: "I am very pleased for the Buch volunteer fire department that they can now move into the new building. In my view, it is an important signal that the volunteer fire brigades are well equipped and supported by the city of Nuremberg. I especially wish the comrades from Buch that they will take possession of their new fire station, settle in quickly and always return safely from operations to their new home."

The new building for the Buch fire brigade was constructed in such a way that it meets the specifications for fire department equipment buildings and all current health and safety requirements. It serves as a "beacon" for the Nuremberg fire department in the event of a disaster. The location of the fire station in the city ensures that the emergency services arrive at the scene as quickly as possible. The Buch volunteer fire department has been in existence since 1872 and has 43 active members and one member of the youth fire department.

Around ten years ago, the Nuremberg City Council decided to renovate or build new fire stations at all 18 fire stations in the city of Nuremberg. All locations were put through their paces and categorized and prioritized according to the need for action. and prioritized. As a result, plans were drawn up and solutions developed for all the fire stations. This is a unique project in this form, even nationwide. Starting in 2011, a working group examined the need to renovate all of the volunteer fire department's equipment depots across the entire city and compared the existing conditions with the requirements of a modern fire station. This review revealed that the first step of the project should be the refurbishment of the equipment sheds in Kornburg, Moorenbrunn and Worzeldorf and the construction of new buildings in Buch, Eibach and Gartenstadt. Future projects include the new building in Katzwang and the refurbishment in Altenfurt.

In 2017, WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH (WBG K) was commissioned to gradually concretize and implement the plans for the new buildings and renovations together with the Nuremberg fire department as the user. Managing Director Ralf Schekira sums up: "With the completion of this new building, we were able to implement our standardized planning approach for the third time and thus also achieve cost-optimizing effects in the construction work. Nevertheless, we have always kept an eye on functionality and design. We are therefore very pleased to be able to hand over the FWGH Buch today, thank you very much for the trust you have placed in us and wish the comrades all the best, both personally and on the job.
