The successful collaboration between wbg Nürnberg GmbH Immobilienunternehmen and the “Tierschutzverein für Stadttauben und Wildtiere in Nürnberg e. V. - Ein Haus für Stefan B.” (Animal Welfare Association for City Pigeons and Wild Animals in Nuremberg - A Home for Stefan B.) is set to continue. Both partners have now signed the addendum to the cooperation agreement. This extends the joint model project for the humane treatment of city pigeons until June 30, 2030.

The pigeon house, which was opened in 2022 in the presence of Mayor Marcus König in the converted attic of the Kernwohnanlage Nordostbahnhof residential complex, has proven to be an effective and sustainable measure. By specifically attracting and feeding the animals and replacing their eggs with dummies, uncontrolled reproduction can be curbed – without violating animal welfare. At the same time, this improves cleanliness around the buildings and coexistence with local residents.

Ralf Schekira, managing director of wbg Nürnberg, draws a positive conclusion: “We didn't just want to solve a problem, we wanted to create a concept that could be replicated. The fact that the pigeon house has proven so successful is a success for everyone involved – especially the volunteers from the association, who work here with great commitment.”

Claudia Rupp, chairwoman of the animal welfare association, adds: “We are delighted about the extension of the cooperation. This will enable us to continue our work in the long term, further develop the project, and also transfer it.”

The pigeon house at Nordostbahnhof station thus remains a showcase project for animal welfare and sustainable neighborhood management in action—supported by volunteer work, social awareness, and community involvement.
