On Saturday, 12 February 2022, the former Managing Director of wbg Nürnberg GmbH real estate company, Peter H. Richter, passed away shortly before his 79th birthday following a serious illness.

Until 31 December 1994, Peter H. Richter was the Chairman of the Board of Management of the works-affiliated housing companies of BASF AG and the Managing Director of the BASF AG Pension Fund based in Ludwigshafen. Lord Mayor Peter Schönlein brought the proven housing manager to Nuremberg as successor to Andreas Burgis, who had been the wbg Managing Director at the time.

Peter H. Richter was appointed Managing Director of the then Wohnungsbaugesellschaft der Stadt Nürnberg mbH (Housing Association of the City of Nuremberg) on 1 January 1995 and held this position until his retirement on 30 September 2009. His term of office saw the integration of the companies Nürnberger Aufbaugesellschaft mbH (Nuremberg Development Company) and Fränkische Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH (Housing Association of Franconia), which were acquired in 1994. The establishment of the wbg 2000 Foundation and the subsidiary WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH can also be traced back to his entrepreneurial vision. With the sale of the majority of wbg shares of the City of Nuremberg to the public utility company Städtische Werke Nürnberg GmbH, he demonstrated his commitment to maintaining the independence of wbg Nürnberg within the City of Nuremberg as a group. In 2004, this led to the change of the company’s name to the current wbg Nürnberg GmbH Immobilienunternehmen. He has always stood up for the interests and welfare of the wbg Group vis-à-vis politics, administration and society.

One of the focal points of his activities was the economic renovation of the energy systems of the housing portfolio, which was something he pushed for shortly after taking up his post in Nuremberg. The wbg housing complex Nordostbahnhof was also very close to his heart. From 2000 onwards, the company focused its modernisation efforts on this district, where it has since invested approx. €150 million. The housing project “OLGA – Oldies live together actively” that was established there was dear to his heart, and he visited it again and again even after his retirement.

He played a decisive role in shaping and steering the development of wbg Nürnberg into an economically strong and efficient municipal real estate company.

Due to his high level of professional competence, he was appointed to various committees in the housing industry. Among other things, he was a member of the Expert Committee of Municipal Housing Companies from 1995 to 2008 and a member of the association council of the VdW Bayern – Verband bayerischer Wohnungsunternehmen e.V. (Association of Bavarian Housing Companies) from 2001 to 2009, chairman of the Vereinigung der Wohnungsunternehmen in Mittelfranken e. V. (Association of Housing Companies in Middle Franconia) from 18 April 1996 to 7 July 2009 and a member of the association committee of the Arbeitgeberverband der Deutschen Immobilienwirtschaft e. V. (Association of Employers in the German Real Estate Industry) from 1995 to 2009, residing as chairman of the latter from 2005 to 2009.

In 2009, he was awarded the “Ring of Honour for outstanding services” to the housing industry in Bavaria.

Until the funeral service for Peter H. Richter, the flags in front of the company headquarters and the four Customer Centres will be decorated with a mourning ribbon. A book of condolence will be available at the wbg headquarters on Glogauer Straße 70 from Wednesday until the funeral service.
