New edition of the mobility project bewegt.wohnen

One of the fundamental goals of wbg Nürnberg GmbH is to pursue future-oriented and sustainable urban district development. This is intended to improve the quality of life in the housing complexes and contribute to environmental protection. In these times, in particular, the transportation transition is another salient issue that we must address. To this end, the project bewegt.wohnen was launched in 2014. Due to the withdrawal of our car sharing partner at the time, the mobility project had to be temporarily discontinued and will now start again on 1 February 2022.

Owing to a lack of alternatives, many people have their own car, even if they don’t actually need it every day. Others don’t have their own car and would like to have an easy way to get a car every now and then. This is where the new edition of bewegt.wohnen comes in. The project is now being continued together with Nuremberg public transport company VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft and the new car-sharing partner book-n-drive.

All wbg tenants who register for car sharing receive a discount of €10/month on their annual VGN subscription in the categories “VGN-JahresAbo”, “VGN-JahresAbo Plus”, and “VGN-JahresAbo ab 9 Uhr”. Existing subscriptions in these categories can be converted to the lower fee. In addition, users with an annual subscription can use VAG rental bikes for up to 600 free minutes/month. The car sharing provider also provides a starting credit of €30 per participant and does not charge an activation fee or a monthly base price.

Starting on 1 February 2022, car sharing cars will initially be available at the following locations:

  • Nordostbahnhof housing complex: Eisenacher Straße 3 and Zwickauer Straße 17
  • Sündersbühl housing complex: Rothenburger Straße 183c / corner of Zollerstraße
  • Röthenbach bei Schweinau housing development: Kavalastraße 4-6
  • St. Johannis housing complex: A station-independent vehicle is located in the district between Wiesentalstraße, Brückenstraße, Johannisstraße and Nordring. The location of the car can be found using the book-n-drive app. After use, the vehicle can be parked in any public car park within the district.

“With this project, we are providing our tenants with an attractive alternative to having their own cars. The mobility costs are certainly considerably lower than those of owning a car. Thanks to the excellent infrastructure created by VAG’s services, the locations are ideally suited for this purpose. The project goals are, on the one hand, to meet the high demand for parking space and reduce the traffic volume at our housing complexes, and on the other hand to make a positive contribution to the environment. If successful, this will significantly increase the quality of life of our customers”, wbg Project Manager Anita Zuckmantel is convinced.

All wbg Nürnberg tenants can register online. Activation is possible at the wbg Customer Centres. Anyone who does not live directly in a wbg building, but in the vicinity of the car sharing stations, can also participate in car sharing or VAG services. You can register directly with VAG or on the homepage of the car sharing provider book-n-drive. Only wbg Nürnberg tenants receive the discount on a VAG subscription.

It is always possible to join the project on the 1st of the month, including the current year. However, it is recommended to sign up at least one week before the 1st of the month so that the necessary registrations can still be completed. The discount for the subscription ends automatically when the car sharing or tenancy agreement is terminated.

“For us as the transport company of the City of Nuremberg, this is another building block towards offering citizens an attractive and low-threshold alternative to having their own cars. In this way, we are helping both to keep Nuremberg a liveable city and to advance the transport revolution”, says VAG project manager Frederik Nöth, explaining his company’s commitment.

The project is to be expanded, with further locations already in planning and scheduled for completion over the course of the year.
