On 13 October 2023, the new fire station in Eibach was handed over to the Eibach Volunteer fire brigade in Eibach. The new fire station is located in Gundelfinger Street, about 700 metres as the crow flies from the previous fire station at Zeitenwendeplatz. The building is based on a model fire station developed for Nuremberg's volunteer fire brigades. After three years of construction, the Eibach volunteer fire brigade is now moving into a building with two parking spaces for fire engines and an optimised arrangement of changing rooms and showers. The barrier-free building has its own first-aid room, a training room, a commander's office, a youth room, storage rooms and a kitchen. These facilities could not be realised at the old location. The city of Nuremberg spent about 5.3 million euros on the new building, which was subsidised by the Free State of Bavaria with 110,000 euros.
Fire brigade mayor Christian Vogel: "Today is a great day for the fire brigade in Nuremberg and, of course, especially for the comrades here in Eibach. I wish the volunteers many happy hours in their 'new home' and that they always arrive safely and sound from their assignments. As the cherry on top, I wish them that the new multi-purpose vehicle will be delivered soon. The parking space for it would be there now."
About ten years ago, the Nuremberg city council passed a resolution to build all 18 fire stations in the Nuremberg city area to be renovated or newly built. All locations were comprehensively reviewed and categorised and prioritised according to the need for action. As a result, planning was started and solutions developed for all locations. This is a project that is unique in this form beyond the region. From 2011 a working group examined the need for renovation of all the volunteer fire brigade the existing conditions with the requirements of a modern fire station. This examination revealed that the first step of the project was the renovation of the fire stations in Kornburg, Worzeldorf and Moorenbrunn and the new buildings in Gartenstadt, Eibach and Buch. With Eibach five of these six buildings have now been completed and handed over to the volunteers.
The next projects are the new building in Katzwang and the renovation in Altenfurt. "The new building for the Eibach fire brigade was constructed according to the specifications for fire brigade stations and today's occupational health and safety requirements. It serves the Nuremberg Fire Brigade as a supply location and "lighthouse" in the event of a disaster," says Planning and Building Officer Daniel F. Ulrich. The location of the fire station in the city ensures the fastest possible arrival of the emergency services at the scene of the incident. The Eibach volunteer fire brigade has 39 active members (4 women) and 4 members in the youth fire brigade. In 2022, the Eibach Volunteer Fire Brigade was alerted a total of 87 times.
In 2017, WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH (WBG K) was commissioned, together with the Nuremberg Fire Brigade as the user, to gradually concretise and implement the plans for the new buildings and renovations." Through the modular approach to the new construction of the fire stations, it was possible to optimise the construction costs and also the future operating costs. I am pleased that we are now able to hand over the second, newly built fire station here in Eibach to the volunteer fire brigade and thus to that of the City of Nuremberg," explained Ralf Schekira, Managing Director of WBG KOMMUNAL GmbH during the ceremony to hand over the keys.
