A delegation of Ukrainian housing experts and representatives of state institutions visited the wbg Nürnberg GmbH real estate company for three days to learn about proven models for affordable and sustainable housing. The visit took place as part of the “Municipal Housing Construction in Kharkiv” project, which is organized by the Initiative Wohnungswirtschaft Osteuropa (IWO) and is part of the UN project “UN4UkrainianCities”.

“With our broadly diversified rental portfolio and decades of experience in the creation and management of social housing, we can provide valuable impetus for the challenges in Ukraine. The cooperation shows how important international exchange is for sustainable urban development,” says Ralf Schekira, Managing Director of wbg Nürnberg.

The delegation took part in presentations and discussed possibilities for transferability to Ukraine. The highlight was a tour of the wbg construction projects “monopol491” in Äußere Sulzbacher Straße and “Neues Wohnen Sündersbühl”. This also included a visit to a customer center, which served as an example of efficient and tenant-oriented management. The Ukrainians were particularly impressed by the clear processes and the combination of social responsibility and financial stability.

Impluse for reconstruction in Ukraine

The participants of the study trip emphasized how important this experience is for the upcoming challenges of reconstruction. Vitalii Lukov, Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv, explained: “The innovative approaches of wbg and the cooperation between public and private actors are a valuable orientation for us. Such models can help to create a sustainable and fair housing industry.”
