wbg's commitment in the Langwasser district of Nuremberg impressed the jury with its holistic concept of construction measures, social commitment and ecological responsibility. This includes, for example, the refurbishment and energy-efficient modernization of existing residential buildings, the creation of new apartments and meeting spaces such as the SIGENA neighborhood meeting place, the redesign of open spaces with the participation of residents and the creation of social infrastructure such as schools, daycare centers and sports facilities together with the city of Nuremberg.
Ecological responsibility and quality of life
Ecological aspects also play a central role: by integrating green spaces, near-natural playgrounds and biodiversity measures, wbg actively promotes environmental protection and the quality of life in the neighborhood. In addition to wbg, the most important players include the urban planning office, Rummelsberger Dienste, the Langwasser citizens' association and the senior citizens' network.
"We are delighted with this recognition and it confirms our approach of shaping neighborhood development holistically and together with local people. In Langwasser, we are creating living spaces that live up to our social and ecological responsibility," emphasized wbg Managing Director Ralf Schekira on the occasion of the award.
The competition is a joint initiative of the AWO Bundesverband, the Deutscher Städtetag, the GdW Zentralverband der Wohnungswirtschaft, the Deutscher Mieterbund and the vhw Bundesverband für Wohnen und Stadtentwicklung.
